The Lontar Foundation is seeking candidates to fulfill the positions of
Director of Publications. Details of the duties involved are given below:
Position Description: Director of Publications
The Lontar Foundation
The Director of Publications of the Lontar Foundation is chosen by the
Foundation's Executive Director in consultation with an independent human
resources management advisor or team. The Director of Publications is in charge
of the Foundation's publications program. Applicants for this position
should demonstrate the following skills:
1. Management skills: Applicant must have a minimum of five years of experience
in the publishing industry, preferably in a company that produces literary
titles. Applicant must be able to choose, with approval of the Executive
Director, the personnel required for the publication of Lontar books-including
but not restricted to editors, translators, proofreaders, typists, transcribers,
illustrators and so on. Applicants must show prior experience in financial
management.
2. Fund-Raising skills: Lontar is self-reliant on funding and the Director of
Publications is expected to spend a portion of his or her time working with the
Executive Director in writing proposals to obtain funding needed for the
Foundation's publications program.
3. Program skills: Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the history and
cultures of Indonesia, particularly its literary traditions, both oral and
written.
4. Computer skills: Applicants should have broad knowledge of computer
technology and demonstrate appreciation of the potentials in using information-
and print-on-demand technology to advance the Foundation's publishing goals.
Mastery of word-processing and basic design programs is a must. Because the
Foundation plans on publishing an on-line literary journal, experience in web
design and development is also recommended.
5. Communication skills: Applicants must be fluent in Indonesian and English
and have excellent writing and speaking skills to work with the numerous
personnel in his or her charge, to conduct stimulating meetings, and to give
talks about Indonesian literature and the goals of the Foundation's
publishing program.
6. Personal skills: The ability to interact smoothly with all kinds of writers,
translators, and other personnel involved in a publishing project. Experience
living and working abroad is not a prerequisite but knowledge of foreign
educational institutions, especially where Indonesian language, literature, and
culture is taught, is also a desirable characteristic. While, as a matter of law
and good practice, the age of applicants is not limited, Lontar is looking for
dynamic individuals who demonstrate a clear devotion to the promotion of
Indonesia through its cultural traditions, particularly literature.
The objective of the position of Director of Publications is an uninterrupted
flow of quality publications. In the course of day-to-day operations, the
Director of Publications will bear the following duties and responsibilities:
* With the approval of the Executive Director, negotiate contracts with
translators, editors, designers, and all other external personnel involved in a
publishing project.
* In line with the above, develop a set of standard contracts for all
publishing related personnel as well as job descriptions for each position;
* Working closely with the Executive Director and other division heads, develop
and execute a master plan for the Publications Division.
* Preparing correspondence on behalf of the Executive Director regarding
publishing agreements
* Filing and archiving all division records, including book designs, films etc.
* If necessary, representing the Executive Director in negotiations with other
parties
* Preparing annual, two-year, and three-year budgets
* Preparing fact sheets for all publications
* Working with the marketing and sales staff on the promotion of Foundation
publications
* Preparing press releases
* Organizing promotional events

While ultimate responsibility for the implementation of these duties is that of
the Director of Publications, he/she will, if Foundation financing permits, be
assigned an assistant to help with this work.
Candidates are asked to submit to the Foundation, before the end of August,
their curriculum vitae, photograph, and list of references. Candidates should
also include a cover letter describing why he/she would like to work for the
Foundation and what he/she would do to help the Foundation achieve its goals.
Screening of candidates for the positions will take place in September for
employment to begin in October.

KETENTUAN UMUM
Penulis adalah warga Negara Indonesia dan berdomisili di Provinsi Jawa
Timur.
Naskah harus asli (bukan terjemahan atau saduran), ditulis dalam
Bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan EYD yang benar.
Tema Bebas bernuansa islami tetapi tidak menjurus pada SARA dan
pornografi.
Naskah belum pernah dipublikasikan dan tidak sedang diikutsertakan
dalam sayembara atau lomba sejenis.
Peserta dapat mengirim lebih dari 1 (satu) naskah.
Panitia Lomba berhak mengganti judul dan menyunting isi apabila naskah
dipublikasikan.
Semua cerpen yang masuk menjadi hak panitia lomba.
Keputusan juri mengikat, tidak dapat diganggu gugat dan tidak diadakan
surat- menyurat.

KETENTUAN KHUSUS
Naskah diketik dengan komputer MS Word di atas kertas HVS Folio/
Kwarto dengan jarak 1,5 spasi, format 12 point dan font Times New Roman.
Panjang naskah 1.500-2.500 kata (6 -10 halaman).
Naskah yang dilombakan dikirim kepada panitia sebanyak tiga rangkap
disertai copy file dalam bentuk CD (compact disk).
Naskah dilampiri CV/ Biodata, foto bebas ukuran 4x6 dan fotokopi KTP
atau tanda pengenal lainnya pada lembar terpisah dari naskah.
Naskah yang dilombakan beserta persyaratan dimasukkan ke dalam amplop

• Master’s Degree or higher in water and sanitation engineering, WSS engineering and utility management experience, or other field related to utility or municipal
management.

• At least seven (7) years of proven track record in preparing and implementing municipal water utility projects and analytical studies.
• Familiarity with Indonesian laws and regulations in relation to the local government sector, contract management and administration and including government project approval and supervision procedures.
• Experience with development and implementation of World Bank or other donor-financed operations is highly desirable.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

* At least 18 years old;
* Willing to share their culture;
* Holders of valid passports;
* Able to pay the programme fee at the time of application;
* Fluent in English – trainees will be dealing with guests on a daily basis, regardless of their assigned positions;
* Have at least 2 years of post-secondary education related to hospitality and/or…

Kata Pengantar Penerbit

Lagi sebuah buku kecil (brosur) Tan Malaka berjudul “SI Semarang dan Onderwijs”, yang ejaan lama telah kita sesuaikan dengan ejaan baru, dan juga telah kita tambah dengan daftar arti kata-kata asing hal 34-36.

Brosur ini diterbitkan di Semarang pada tahun 1921 oleh Serikat Islam School (Sekolah Serikat Islam). Karya pendek Tan Malaka ini sudah termasuk: “Barang Langka”. Brosur ini merupakan pengantar sebuah buku yang pada waktu itu akan ditulis oleh Tan Malaka tentang sistem pendidikan yang bersifat kerakyatan, dihadapkan pada sistem pendidikan yang diselenggarakan kaum penjajah Belanda. Bagaimana nasib niat Tan Malaka untuk menulis buku tentang pendidikan merakyat itu, kami sebagai penerbit kurang mengetahuinya. Mungkin Tan malaka tidak sempat lagi menulisnya karena tidak lama kemudian beliau dibuang oleh penjajah Belanda karena kegiatan perjuangannya dan sikapnya yang tegar anti kolonialisme, imperialisme dan kapitalisme. Terserah kepada penelitan sejarah Bangsa Indonesia nantinya untuk menelusuri perkara ini. Yang jelas tujuan Tan Malaka dalam pendidikan ialah menciptakan suatu cara pendidikan yang cocok dengan keperluan dan cita-cita Rakyat yang melarat !

Dalam hal merintis pendidikan untuk Rakyat miskin pada zaman penjajahan Belanda itu, tujuan utama adalah usaha besar dan berat mencapai Indonesia Merdeka. Tan Malaka berkeyakinan bahwa “Kemerdekaan Rakyat Hanyalah bisa diperoleh dengan DIDIKAN KERAKYATAN” menghadapi “Kekuasan Kaum Modal yang berdiri atas DIDIKAN YANG BERDASARKAN KEMODALAN”.

Jadi, usaha Tan Malaka secara aktif ikut merintis pendidikan kerakyatan adalah menyatu dan tidak terpisah dari usaha besar memperjuangkan kemerdekaan sejati Bangsa dan Rakyat Indonesia.

Untuk sekedar mengetahui latar-belakang mengapa Tan Malaka sebagai seorang pejuang besar dan revolusioner itu sadar dan dengan ikhlas terjun dalam dunia pendidikan pergerakan Islam seperti Sarekat Islam ? Tidak lain karena keyakinannya bahwa kekuatan pendorong pergerakan Indonesia itu adalah seluruh lapisan dan golongan Rakyat melarat Indonesia, tidak perduli apakah ia seorang Islam, seorang nasionalis ataupun seorang sosialis.

Seluruh kekuatan Rakyat ini harus dihimpun dan disatukan untuk menumbangkan kolonialisme Belanda di Tanah Air kita. Persatuan ini harus di tempat di kawah candradimukanya perjuangan menumbangkan kolonialisme dan imperialisme. Inilah mengapa Tan Malaka pun tidak ragu-ragu dan secara ikhlas terjun dalam dunia pendidikan masyarakat Islam. Dalam lingkungan pendidikan Serikat Islam yang merupakan pergerakan rakyat yang hebat pada waktu itu. Jangan pula dilupakan bahwa usia Tan Malaka pada waktu itu masih sangat muda.

Memasuki ISI dari karya pendek Tan Malaka ini, dikemukakan oleh Tan Malaka TIGA TUJUAN pendidikan dan kerakyatan sebagai berikut :

1. Pendidikan ketrampilan/Ilmu Pengetahuan seperti : berhitung, menulis, ilmu bumi, bahasa dsb. Sebagai bekal dalam penghidupan nanti dalam masyarakat KEMODALAN.
2. Pendidikan bergaul/berorganisasi serta berdemokrasi untuk mengembangkan kepribadian yang tangguh, kepercayaan pada diri sendiri, harga diri dan cinta kepada rakyat miskin.
3. Pendidikan untuk selalu berorientasi ke bawah.

Si Kromo, si-Marhaen, si-Murba tanpa memandang kepercayaan agama, keyakinan dan kedudukan mereka, dalam hal ini termasuk golongan-golongan rakyat miskin lainnya.

Ketiga TUJUAN pendidikan kerakyatan tersebut telah dirintis oleh Tan Malaka dan para pemimpin Rakyat lainnya seperti Ki Hajar Dewantara, Muhammadiyah, pesantren-pesantren Nahdatul Ulama, SI dsb. Semua usaha, pengorbanan mereka itu tidak sedikit sahamnya dalam Pembangunan Bangsa/National Building dan dalam membangkitkan semangat perjuangan memerdekakan Rakyat Indonesia dari belenggu penjajahan. Merek atelah memberikan yang terbaik dalam hidup mereka kepada Bangsa dan Rakyat Indonesia. Mereka telah tiada, tetapi jiwanya yang menulis, jiwa-besar mereka, pikiran-pikirannya yang agung akan tetap hidup sepanjang zaman.

Akhir kata dikutip di bawah ini ucapan tokoh besar pergerakan kemerdekaan dan pemimpin besar Presiden Amerika Serikat ABRAHAM LINCOLN sebagai berikut :

“WE MUST FIRST KNOW WHAT WE ARE, WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE ARE GOING, BEFORE SAYING WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO DO IT”
